I have four announcements to make this evening.
First: If you live in the Tucumcari area, and you know a child who could benefit from some training on how to stay safe around dogs, mark your calendar for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Ramona the Pest and I have partnered with Tucumcari MainStreet to offer a FREE dog-safety workshop for kids at the Tucumcari Railroad Museum. I’ll share some dog-training tips, Ramona will help me demonstrate the best way to interact with dogs, and we’ll have free coloring pages to help kids remember what they learned. Children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Second: If you live in the Tucumcari area, and your dog needs some training, click over to the obedience lessons link to sign up for my next group class. This six-week class will meet on Saturday mornings from March 11 through April 15. The course fee is $50, with proceeds going to Paws and Claws and the Railroad Museum.
Third: I have always offered free obedience lessons to people who adopted dogs from Paws and Claws. As of this week, that same offer is also available to anyone who adopts a dog from the City of Tucumcari animal shelter.
And finally: If you need obedience lessons but believe you cannot afford them, I am excited to announce a new assistance program to make lessons accessible to more people in Tucumcari. It’s called the Pay-It-Forward program, and it offers a variety of options. Some of those options include paying a reduced amount based on a sliding scale; bartering goods or services for lessons; or volunteering at a local nonprofit organization to earn lessons. If none of that appeals to you, I’m open to other ideas, too. Click the Financial Assistance link to learn more or to sign up for this program.
