A hike at Cerrillos Hills

We took the Burrito and the Pest to Cerrillos Hills State Park yesterday for a hike. It was a warm day, with temperatures in the high 70s, and the trail was pretty steep, so we limited ourselves to a mile and a half instead of the full two miles we’d planned. I think Pearl would have hiked all day if we’d let her. I’ve never seen a dog more enthusiastic about anything; she just lights up and glows when we take her hiking.

We were planning to eat at the Black Bird Saloon in Los Cerrillos after our adventure, but their outdoor seating area was crowded, and Ramona has been antsy lately, so we ended up at Rumor Brewing Company in Cedar Crest instead. They have a huge, dog-friendly patio with plenty of shade, which we appreciated, and a menu that includes wood-fired pizzas, Caprese salads, and more. Bonus: They had hibiscus kombucha, which tasted like what you’d get if you crossed Red Zinger tea with a sour beer. If you like kombucha as much as I do, Rumor is definitely worth a stop next time you’re on the Turquoise Trail.
